Fire Engineer
The City of Mt. Shasta is accepting applications for the position of Fire Engineer. This is a full-time position with an hourly compensation range of $28.48 to $31.44, depending on experience. Benefits include a generous City contribution to a Cafeteria Plan with two health plans to choose from. One plan has no deductible, and the other includes a City funded health savings account. Both can include vision, and dental if you choose, and there is also supplemental insurance available. The position also receives a uniform allowance, P.E.R.S. retirement plan (2% at 50 for Classic members or 2.7% at 57 for New members), holiday in-lieu pay, sick leave (3.69 hours/pay period), bereavement leave (40 hours annually) and vacation days, which accrue per pay period at a rate that increases with tenure (up to a maximum of 300 hours). The City also has several employee-funded deferred compensation plans available.
Under the direction of the Fire Captain, this position responds to a variety of emergencies, including medical and fire suppression calls to prevent or minimize the loss of life and property, hazardous materials incidents, and confined space, extrication and technical rescues. The Fire Engineer participates in fire prevention and inspection activities, equipment and station maintenance, as well as all aspects of fire training. The position may be assigned to direct others in specific programs or activities or serve as Company Officer in the absence of a Fire Officer, so leadership and communication skills are essential.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of firefighting experience and training. They must also possess a SFT or IFSAC Firefighter I certificate and be able to aquire a SFT or IFSAC Firefighter II certificate within one year. Emergency Medical Responder (Title 22), CPR/AED certification, and Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations certification are also required. In addition, a California Class C driver’s license with Firefighter endorsement, or Commercial driver’s license with tank and airbrake endorsements, is required. As well as, a SFT Fire Apparatus Operator IA certificate and be able to aquire a SFT Fire Apparatus Operator IB certificate within six months. Siskiyou County residents encouraged.
